The BSO celebrated its 25th anniversary in 2018. It is my pleasure to share with you what we have done over the past year with your support.
Participation in our regular concerts exceeded 95% last year. In our Poland tour in May, our tickets sold out weeks ago. We reached out to 7000 listeners in June concerts at the Odeon, 8500 listeners in the Bodrum Festival in August, and 9000 listeners in the Yenimahalle and Odeon concerts in August. Our educational concerts for 2000 students from all over Ankara were deeply moving for us all.
We owe all that we have achieved to your interest and support over the years, and now we feel even more motivated for our new projects.
Choir works series we started with the Odeon concerts, our national and international tours, and educational concerts addressing schools carefully selected from among different districts of Ankara will continue in this season too.
The Halloween costume concert to be performed for the first time by the Bilkent Youth Symphony Orchestra will give our children the creeps.
The concert series on the occasion of Beethoven’s 250th birth anniversary will go on over the whole year. For the first six months of the season, however, we selected more colorful programs instead of presenting Beethoven only. In the latter period, we intend to “increase the pace” through piano sonatas, string quartets, chamber music and symphonies.
In this season, you will again listen to a variety of works, ranging from the Baroque pieces rarely performed or not performed at all, and the classical/romantic period samples, to the examples of modern works. We will have the honor of hosting the world premieres of the works of both our young friends Ülkemin Akbaş, and İlhan Usmanbaş, who will turn 99 in 2020. We do not even mention first-ever performances in Turkey.
I hope that our concerts will offer us all an opportunity for spiritual cleansing by making us forget our daily struggles at least for a concert-long.
